Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital Community Dermatology Services

Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital provides community dermatology services, triaging, treating and managing adults and children who would otherwise be referred to an acute hospital.

Who is this service for?

Community dermatology services are for both adults and children living in West Sussex.

What does this service do?

Community dermatology services at Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital are for patients with skin lesions or medical dermatology which can be managed in a community setting. This includes community skin cancer services. The service is provided by:

  • A team of GPs with special interest and a community dermatology doctor who has specialist training in medical and surgical dermatology.
  • A specialist dermatology nursing service for people with chronic dermatological conditions.
  • A team of administrative and support staff.

The service is aligned to a Local Specialist MDT & Integrated with Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust. Consultant dermatologists undertake joint clinics with GPs with special interest on a weekly basis and the service is aligned with the trust’s specialist dermatology nursing service.

  • Improved patient experience and high referrer satisfaction.
  • Increased patient education and self management
  • Appropriate referral of patients to secondary and tertiary care.
  • Shared care management with secondary care where appropriate.

What cases can be referred?

  • Diagnosis and management of premalignant lesions such as actinic keratosis and Bowen’s disease.
  • Diagnosis and treatment of low-risk Basal Call Carcinomas.
  • Diagnosis and treatment of other symptomatic benign lesions.
  • Diagnosis and management of inflammatory conditions, rashes of body, scalp and nails that have already had standard first-line therapy.
  • Injection of keloid scars.
  • Patch testing.

Service exclusions:

  • Malignant melanomas.
  • Squalmous Cell Carcinomas.
  • High risk Basal Call Carcinomas.
  • Complex medical dermatology requiring consultant expertise.
  • Cosmetic dermatology lesions or conditions.

Where are patients seen?

Patients are seen either at The Shripney Unit at Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital or at St Richard's Hospital in Chichester.
